Oct 2017 - Current
The Volkswagen Group Electronic Research Lab uses Virtual and Augmented reality to illustrate a variety of automotive concepts, from anywhere to helping enhance the design process to an illustration tool at the very end. As the first Virtual Reality Design Specialist at the ERL, I established the Mixed Reality lab, which is now a staple of the location. Here, we have seating bucks that map to Virtual Cockpit Experiences, created by myself and one other employee.
The experiences we create here are proprietary and confidential for partners in Porsche, Volkswagen, Audi and Bentley.
My Responsibilities Include:
VR Interaction design and implementation (Unity, C#, HTC Vive, Leap Motion)
Developing software for mixed reality aspects of experiences (physical levers, doors in real life moving with doors in virtual environment)
MQTT Client/Server implementation for communication between vehicle and Unity application
2D Instrument cluster simulation based on designs created through Adobe After Effects/Illustrator
Hardware arrangement for optimal tracking and immediate adjustment mapping
Establishment and Management of the ERL Mixed Reality Lab, includes budget allocation
Development Process
Most of these projects are strictly confidential and VOLKSWAGEN Group property.
I discussed some of the things I do in this Unity blog post, along with the other members of our Mixed Reality Lab.
